Prepregs
Prepregs – "PRE-imPREGnated sheet materials" are fibrous materials impregnated with reactive resin materials. Prepregs are the ideal starting material for lightweight yet high-strength constructional parts thanks to the diverse ways of processing these further.
Characteristically, the prepreg resins are in the still very reactive B stage, are of medium to high viscosity and can thus be processed without any problems by supplying energy and moulding to shape at the same time. The low-molecular and still fusible resins are transformed here to a high-molecular non-fusible C state. The KREMPEL prepreg systems are based on multifunctional, specially modified epoxy resins and a curing which although latent at room temperature, is a highly reactive system at higher temperatures. Structural components having very good mechanical properties can be fabricated with glass, carbon and aramide fibres.
This is a controlled process and we can adjust the resin system exactly to the conditions required for further processing.
KREMPEL prepreg system BD
The prepregs of the BD system are based on modified epoxy resins having high notch impact resistance and outstanding dynamic characteristics. The range of fabric-based and unidirectional reinforced prepregs now available makes it possible to design your parts to meet required loads.
All common methods and procedures can be used in processing to give high-strength structural parts. The curing temperature ranges from 85 °C to 140 °C; the maximum temperature for dimensional stability is 125 °C.
KREMPEL prepreg system BX
The prepregs of the BX system are based on modified epoxy resins with an extremely wide curing range from 55 °C to 185 °C. The system meets the requirements for a low-pressure / low-temperature prepreg.
The BX system is suitable for fabricating structural components as well as for fibre-composite tools dimensionally stable at temperatures up to 180 °C. Processing can be by all common procedures and techniques.
JSI prepreg systems
Manufacture of the HYPERFIL C series of epoxy resin prepregs is by coating various grades of woven carbon-fibre fabrics with a range of epoxy resin-based formulations. Various constructions of woven carbon fabrics are utilised in order to engineer the required moulding and conformability characteristics and ensure the desired mechanical properties of the final laminated product. Resin formulations and contents, together with the degree of "B" stage, are controlled to provide a prepreg composite which is compatible with the component manufacturer’s process.
Market sector applications include automotive, aerospace, defense, sporting, marine, communications, railway and general engineering industries.
